Description
This painting is based on the original photograph 'Morning Light - Black-capped Chickadee', by Cindy Treger, whose express consent has been requested to use it as a reference.
The black-capped chickadee (Poecile atricapillus) is a small, widespread, common, nonmigratory, North American passerine songbird that lives in mixed and deciduous woods, especially willow thickets, groves, shade trees. It can also live suburbs where nest sites are available.
Gray on its upper sides and tail and has a black cap and throat bib, white cheeks, a white buffy chest and belly, and light brown flanks right below its wings, with a thin, short bill. Males and females look alike.
Its name comes from its "chick-a-dee-dee-dee" call, and it is the state bird of both Maine and Massachusetts in the United States, and the provincial bird of New Brunswick in Canada. These cute birds have a great memory, being able to remember where they hid food up to almost a month.
